Cops ticket unsafe drivers in holiday crackdown

The NYPD launched a special five-day crackdown against bad drivers last week to protect pedestrians from heavier holiday traffic — and wound up issuing nearly 7,500 summonses.

Officers targeted major shopping districts and pedestrian crossings between Dec. 9 and Dec. 13, authorities said.

They issued 4,612 double-parking summonses citywide: 2,152 in Manhattan, 1,368 in Brooklyn, 637 in Queens, 445 in The Bronx and 10 on Staten Island.

There also were 2,857 moving violations issued: 944 in Manhattan, 705 in Queens, 684 in Brooklyn, 409 in The Bronx and 115 on Staten Island.

The police made 226 arrests for suspended licenses, too: 74 in Brooklyn, 70 in Queens, 66 in Manhattan, 14 in The Bronx and two on Staten Island.

This was the first year for the “Holiday Initiative,’’ authorities said.
