VP’s ‘shotgun’ marriage

WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden is locked and loaded, and has taken to schooling his wife in how to ward off would-be intruders with a shotgun.

“If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barreled shotgun,” Biden, who is spearheading the administration’s anti-violence initiative, said at an online forum hosted by Facebook and Parents magazine yesterday.

“As I told my wife . . . I said, ‘Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here. Walk out, put that double-barreled shotgun, and fire two blasts outside the house.’ ”

“You don’t need an AR-15,” Biden continued, referring to an assault rifle that would fall under a ban proposed by Senate Democrats. “It’s harder to aim, it’s harder to use, and in fact, you don’t need 30 rounds to protect yourself. Buy a shotgun. Buy a shotgun”

Biden, who said he keeps two shotguns locked in a safe along with ammunition, suggested parents check that guns are properly secured when other children come to their home.

Biden likened opposition to new gun regulations to initial opposition to banning lead-additives in gasoline, mentioning that he still has a 1967 Corvette.

“Everyone said, ‘Why would you do that? You still have all these cars out there.’ Over time they will be off the market,” Biden said.
