Resident stabbed to death in B’klyn psychiatric home

A fight in a home for people with psychiatric disabilities in Brooklyn left a woman dead yesterday, authorities said.

The violence erupted in Bedford-Stuyvesant inside of the Institute for Community Living facility on Lewis Avenue at 11:15 p.m. when Markie Young, 23, allegedly stabbed Serena Matthews, 56, cops said.

The two had been arguing when Young allegedly lashed out and attacked Matthews, authorities said.

“I heard her scream. It was a deep, deep scream,” said a resident, who did not give her name. “I looked out my door to see it happen in the hallway.”

It was not immediately clear what sparked the argument.

Silvia Major, 51, saw Matthews when she rushed out on a stretcher. “She wasn’t moving at all. It was very frantic,” she said. “They were rushing her to the ambulance. She had the oxygen mask over her face.”

She died at Woodhull Hospital.

Young was charged with second-degree murder, as well as criminal possession of a weapon.
