‘Sensational’ win for Ain’t No Other

ARCADIA, Calif. — Ain’t No Other defeated Starspangled Heat by three-quarters of a length to win the $100,000 Sensational Star Stakes for older California-bred horses at Santa Anita yesterday.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Ain’t No Other ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:11.53 and paid $11.40, $6 and $4.

“He showed me a lot of speed from the gate, but I didn’t want to be on the lead, so I let the speed go a little bit,” Bejarano said. “I found my position quickly, though. He wore blinkers [for the first time] and he showed me a big kick.”

It was Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer’s second stakes win of the weekend, following the San Carlos on Saturday. Bejarano has 10 wins in 17 mounts for Hollendorfer at the meet. The trainer has 19 wins overall. The victory, worth $60,000, increased Ain’t No Other’s career earnings to $434,973.
