Kristen Stewart lines up yet another small indie role

After spending half a decade plastered on “Twilight” billboards across the globe, Kristen Stewart continues to seek refuge in the independent film world, accepting a role in the upcoming movie “Anesthesia.”

The 23-year-old actress will play a small part in director Tim Blake Nelson’s tale of a group of New Yorkers whose lives have been impacted by a shared philosophy professor, reports Deadline.

Currently shooting in New York, the indie flick is only Stewart’s fourth movie since the mega-successful franchise concluded last year.

In addition to an adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road,” which failed to make an impression critically or financially when it was released last winter, Stewart stars in the upcoming “Camp X-Ray” and “Sils Maria,” both of which are set to be released in 2014.

The starlet’s career has been in a holding pattern since she was photographed with then-married director Rupert Sanders in July 2012. The captured embrace preceded to the dissolution of Stewarts long-rumored relationship with “Twilight” co-star Robert Pattinson, one which was only officially acknowledged when she released a statement apologizing to him for her “indiscretion.”

While it’s unlikely that fans of the vampire movies still hold a grudge against the actress, she was never entirely comfortable with the scrutiny that came with such a high profile role, so a return to the quiet indie fare of her early career makes sense.
