Bill would bar tax deadbeats

WASHINGTON — Two US senators introduced a bill yesterday to stop the federal government from hiring people who are tax deadbeats.

“It’s wrong to force American families to fund the paychecks of federal employees who don’t feel like paying their taxes,” said Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), who co-sponsored the bill with Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.).

More than 311,000 current and former federal employees owed more than $3.5 billion in unpaid federal taxes, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

“These employees . . . need to pay their taxes or face the consequences,” said Prior.
