In just 10 seconds, a massive vacant building was obliterated on Governors Island yesterday morning to make way for a new park.

The spectacular 7:36 a.m. implosion brought down an 11-story brick apartment building that formerly housed Coast Guard families.

The Trust for Governors Island said the 45-year-old structure had been vacant since 1996 and did not meet current building codes.

The blast, which took 250 pounds of explosives, was overseen by the city’s Fire Department and Department of Buildings.

Explosives were put on each of the structure’s three levels, ensuring that it would pancake down on itself in one thunderous cloud of dust and smoke, officials said.

Governors Island, a longtime military base, is in New York Harbor off the tip of lower Manhattan.

The city now controls the island and is redeveloping it, with some of it becoming park space.

The site where the apartment building stood will be turned into a softball field, trust officials said.

Governors Island was reopened to the public shortly after the blast.
