Weird But True

Alligator captured in garbage can at Chicago airport

Frequent fliers who thought they’d seen it all got a shock at Chicago’s O’Hare airport when an alligator seemed to appear out of nowhere and started crawling around a crowded terminal

“I was out there, and a passenger had pointed out that there was an alligator up under here,” security worker Tineka Walker told CBS. “I looked, I said, ‘What?’”

Walker radioed airport cops for help – but they thought she was joking.

“Figured somebody was messing with us,” Chicago Police Officer Anthony Oliver said.

Workers caught the undersized and underfed gator with a broom and dustpan and then covered it with a trash bin.

It wasn’t clear how the creepy critter got to the airport, and officials noted that it is illegal to own alligators as pets in Illinois.

Its wandering days may be over, but happier times lay ahead for the gator, which will be nursed back to health and then given to a reptile park.
