Giants won’t hike tix

Teams often wait until late Friday afternoon to announce ticket increases, hoping to minimize the publicity damage using the cover of the upcoming weekend. The Giants yesterday stated they sent out season ticket invoices and, for the fourth straight year, there will be no increase in the price of the tickets.

The cost of parking at MetLife Stadium for Giants will increase, though, to $30 per game. Parking had been $25 per game.

The email sent out to season ticket holders stated “As you are probably aware, our organization already has started preparations for the 2013 season with the objective of returning to the playoffs.’’

* The salary cap savings the Giants received after cutting CB Corey Webster’s salary is actually higher than the $3 million reported on Thursday. Webster’s scheduled salary of $7 million was actually slashed to $1.25 million, but he also was given a signing bonus of $2.5 million and his $250,000 workout bonus was untouched. That means he will make $4 million this season. The Giants added a voidable year on Webster’s contract, making their salary cap savings this season a hefty $4.5 million.

* Osi Umenyiora is a veteran of 10 NFL seasons with the Giants, but he is about to embark on an adventure he has never experienced. For the first time, he’s going to hit the market as an unrestricted free agent, and he has high expectations for what he will do for his new team.

“It wouldn’t have to be a playoff team,” Umenyiora said yesterday on the NFL Network. “It could be anybody pretty much anybody who would need me to help them win, and anybody who I think is going to put me in a situation to win Defensive Player of the Year, which is what I am going to do this year.’’ —Paul Schwartz
