White House tour de farce

The Issue: The White House decision to cancel its public tours, citing layoffs due to the sequester cuts.

***

This is a political stunt to get people’s attention regarding the sequester (“$hutdown at O House,” March 6).

Instead of canceling tours, how about laying off some of the personnel who wait on the president and his family?

Or grounding the fuel-guzzling Air Force One that flies them wherever, or the car that transports the president to and from the golf course?

Along with that, how about salary reductions, starting with the president, Congress and the Senate, to show the American people an example of what we all need to do to sacrifice?

If sequestration is the only way we can stop spending, so be it.

But let’s start these cuts at the top.

When I read that President Obama stopped all public White House tours due to sequestration, I laughed out loud.

Obama has provided a perfect example of a major difference between Democrats and Republicans.

For example, Obama’s daughter says she and her friends are in the mood to go to dinner in New York City. Obama seems to say, “No problem, we’ll get one of the jets ready, and the Secret Service will take care of all the logistical planning.”

A Democrat spends money that isn’t there. A Republican takes care of what little money is there.

Where is the media outrage at Obama’s golfing weekend in Florida while Michelle and their daughters went skiing in Colorado?

What a shameful example.
