Left him to die: Hit-run driver mows down Ivy Leaguer on West Side Highway

A 22-year-old Ivy League grad and avid skier was killed in a hit-and-run on the West Side Highway early this morning, cops and his relatives said.

Andrew Quinn, a real estate analyst, was struck around 3 a.m. as he crossed West 23rd Street by a driver headed southbound on the busy roadway. He was pronounced DOA at Bellevue Hospital.

“That person needs to know what he did. He needs to know that he took a life that didn’t need to be taken,” his mother, Linda Quinn told The Post, as she broke down in tears.

“Then to leave? Who does that?” she said. “To have that boy’s mother be told by three police officers that her son was hit by a car.”

Quinn, of Parsippany, NJ, did not know where her son had been, but a police officer said to her “that there were four people who helped him and one person who gave him mouth to mouth, but it was already too late.”

“Whoever hit him had to have hit him at a pretty good speed to almost kill someone instantly,” she cried.

Tomorrow, Andrew Quinn, just 13 days shy of his 23rd birthday, and his brother Jeff Quinn, planned to travel to Hunter Mountain on a ski trip, his mother said.

Before the two set off, Andrew planned to come to Parsippany tonight to celebrate his sister Colleen Quinn-Sears’ birthday, his mother said.

As a real estate analyst for Tishman Hotel & Realty he eagerly worked on new projects and imagined in the future he’d own his own hotel.

“He loved his job,” his mother said.

“His passion is skiing. His dream was to manage a ski (lodge). He was headed in the right direction.”

His colleagues at Tishman Hotel and Realty were “ shocked and saddened by this tragedy.”

“Andrew was a smart and engaging member of our team,” said company spokesman John Gallagher.

“He had a bright future ahead of him. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends, and will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

At Cornell, he excelled, snagging first place with a team of students in the Cornell International Real Estate Case Competition. He graduated in 2012.

He participated in water-skiing and played the saxophone, his mother said.

Though he moved to Manhattan, his very close childhood pals fondly recalled how they set off fireworks on July 4th or water tubed at the Jersey Shore.

“Anything we could do to get adrenaline in us, we did,” said Rob Veech, 23.

“He’s close with his siblings, but we called him a brother,” he added, saying the guys called him “Quinn.”

A former bandmate from Parsippany High School, Zack Gao, 23, said they shared a life-long friendship.

“We learned everything together,” Gao said.

“We learned about music, we learned about girls. We made mistakes. We grew up together.”

While living in the city, Quinn maintained extremely close ties with family and he, Jeff Quinn, his mom and sisters Kathy Quinn and Colleen Quinn-Sears gathered to video-chat on Thursday.

He and sister, Kathy would do P90X Yoga X together.

“We would fall over laughing,” said Kathy Quinn. During the family video chat, last time they spoke, she said he was “happy as always. A happy kid.”

No arrest has been made. An investigation is ongoing.
