2 planes collide on JFK tarmac

Two planes bumped into each other on the tarmac of Kennedy Airport this morning, forcing dozens of passengers to disembark — though none were injured, sources said.

Air India Flight 102 had just landed at about 6:19 a.m. and was taxiing toward the gate when it made contact with a parked Jet Blue flight near Terminal 4.

The left wingtip of the Air India plane hit the rudder of Jet Blue Flight 145, an Airbus A320 carrying about 150 passengers headed to West Palm Beach, Fla., a transportation source said.

“There was a noise. You could feel the vibration but I didn’t know what happened,” one Air India passenger said.

The Jet Blue plane, whose uninjured passengers were forced to disembark, had been stopped at the gate waiting for a tow bar replacement, according to a statement from the company.

“At the end of the day, this is a minor situation,” a transportation source said. “There were no injuries and, not too long after that, passengers that were on the plane went on a new flight and were taken out.”

A Jet Blue spokesman said the Airbus A320 “sustained damage to its rudder and taxied back to the gate.”

“The customers were deplaned and boarded a new aircraft bound for West Palm Beach,” the spokesman added.

An FAA official said the planes were not under air traffic control when the crash happened, CBS reported. The agency’s investigation into the incident is ongoing.
