Lord’s in ‘cannibal’ corner

The accused “cannibal cop” could be in line for some divine intervention.

Defense lawyers for Gilberto Valle revealed yesterday that Catholic missionaries in Westchester County were praying for him as jurors deliberate his fate.

Two greeting cards from the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers say that a “Maryknoll Missioner will offer Mass for the intentions” of Valle and his defense team.

Lead lawyer Julia Gatto said the missives show there’s support for Valle “from places that would surprise people.”

The cards — which bear the pre-printed signature of Father Edward Dougherty — were sent at the request of Marypat Hughes, whose son, John Hughes III, is a pro-bono lawyer on Valle’s defense team.

Dougherty, superior general of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, didn’t return a message yesterday.

The jury in Valle’s case did not reach a verdict yesterday and is scheduled to resume deliberations in Manhattan federal court on Monday.
