This week’s couple: Friend request

The purpose of Meet Market is to experience a blind date: that is, the two people see each other for the first time on the date. So it was unfortunate that Alex, 22, searched for Rhianna, 23, on Facebook before the two met up at the Chester at the Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District. Having broken the rules, what did Alex and Rhianna think of each other when they met offline?

He said: ♥
I found Rhianna on Facebook prior to the date. She wasn’t the conventional type, but I was willing to give it a shot.

My first impression when we met was she is superficial. I don’t think I measured up to her expectations in the slightest — I could tell in her facial expressions.

The Chester was amazing. The food was great and the staff were wonderful. We ordered food and drinks and received a complimentary shot from the hostess. We took our time with dinner and ordered dessert. We chatted it up the whole time and by the end of the date, it felt like we connected a bit.

When we parted ways, I mentioned I found her on Facebook and asked if it was OK to add her as a friend. She said it was fine, but I’m still not quite sold and I probably won’t end up “friending” her.

She said: ♥
When I spotted Alex, he looked angelic in his plaid shirt and Vans combo. He seemed sweet and lovely — but youthful and a little too collegiate.

Our conversation was stimulating, though. From politics to gastronomy, we had a lively discourse and shared laughter.

The food at the Chester was incredible and the service was impeccable. The combination of that and my delectable honey absinthe cocktail put me at ease.

At the end of the date, I thanked him for the delightful evening. I shook his hand and gave him an air kiss on the cheek. He mentioned he Facebook-searched me before the date. It was a juvenile move, but I didn’t find it out of character. If he requests me I just won’t accept.
