Indiana edges Michigan to clinch Big Ten

Cody Zeller scored 25 points and made a go-ahead layup with 13 seconds left, then altered Trey Burke’s shot at the other end, lifting No. 2 Indiana to a 72-71 victory over No. 7 Michigan yesterday in Ann Arbor, Mich. The win gave the Hoosiers their first outright Big Ten title in two decades.

The Hoosiers (26-5, 14-4) trailed by five points in the last minute, but took advantage when the Wolverines (25-6, 12-6) were unable to seal it at the foul line.

The result left No. 14 Ohio State (23-7, 13-5), which earlier beat Illinois 68-55 behind 19 points from Deshaun Thomas, and No. 10 Michigan State (24-7, 13-5), which later held off Northwestern, 71-61, in second place.

Creighton 68, Wichita St. 65

In St. Louis, Jahenns Manigat scored a season-best 16 points and hit a layup with 11.5 seconds to go that gave top-seeded Creighton (27-7) just enough to beat Wichita State (26-8) for its second straight Missouri Valley Conference tournament title.

Liberty 87, Charleston Southern 76

In Conway, S.C., John Caleb Sanders had 27 points, Davon Marshall added 20 and Liberty (15-20) defeated Charleston Southern (19-12) to win the Big South Conference tournament. The Flames opened the season 0-8 and their .429 winning percentage is the lowest for a tournament team since 2005.

Wisconsin 63, Penn St. 60

In State College, Pa., Traevon Jackson made a 3-pointer at the buzzer and No. 22 Wisconsin (21-10, 12-6 Big Ten) survived a scare.

Temple 84, VCU 76

In Philadelphia, Khalif Wyatt scored 30 points and Temple (23-8, 11-5 Atlantic 10) beat No. 21 Virginia Commonwealth (24-7, 12-4) after rallying from a big first-half deficit.
