Tornadoes touch down in New Jersey, Connecticut

Tornadoes touched down in both New Jersey and Connecticut on Monday, the National Weather Service confirmed.

The Connecticut twister landed at about 1:28 p.m. in Hartford County. The tornado cut a path about 2.25 miles long from Windsor to East Windsor, passing through part of Windsor Locks and crossing the Connecticut River, according to the NWS based in Taunton, Mass.

Jersey’s EF-0 tornado followed a 4.8-mile track from Berkeley Heights to Summit for about eight minutes, passing through New Providence, the NWS announced. A survey team estimated that the tornado had a maximum wind speed of 85 mph and was about 50 yards wide.
