MLB: Harper hits homer in return

The Nationals reinstated outfielder Bryce Harper from the 15-day disabled list following his recovery from a knee injury, and he hit a home run in the first swing of his first at-bat as the Nationals defeated the Brewers, 10-5.

The Diamondbacks placed pitcher Trevor Cahill on the disabled list because of a hip contusion. He suffered the injury when he was hit by a line drive against the Marlins on June 19.

In Toronto, R.A. Dickey won again, Jose Reyes and Mark DeRosa homered and the Blue Jays beat the slumping Tigers, 8-3, for their seventh straight home win.

In Miami, Jose Fernandez struck out 10 and allowed only two hits in a career-high eight innings, and the Marlins matched a season high with their third consecutive victory by beating the Padres, 4-0.

SOCCER: FIFA punishes Ethiopia

Ethiopia had three points taken away by FIFA in World Cup qualifying for fielding an ineligible player in a game against Botswana.

FIFA said Ethiopia forfeited its 2-1 win in Botswana on June 8 because Minyahile Beyene played in that game when he was suspended for receiving two yellow cards in earlier qualifiers. FIFA awarded the match to Botswana, 3-0.

Brazil midfielder Paulinho will leave Corinthians to join Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League before the start of the season, according to Reuters.

An Alabama minor-league baseball team canceled a gun raffle that was supposed to be featured during its Second Amendment Night promotion.
