‘Mission’ man Mex’s it up

Danny Bowien is a food guru on a “Mission.”

The chef and co-founder of Mission Chinese Food and Mission Burger in San Francisco is continuing to expand in New York City.

Bowien, who won the James Beard Award for Rising Star Chef this year, is launching Mission Cantina, a Mexican food and tequila bar, on the Lower East Side this fall.

That’s in addition to the opening of Mission Chinese Food at 154 Orchard St. last year.

Mission Cantina will be taking over the former Noodle Bar space at 172 Orchard St. The design and seating of the 2300 square-foot space is being worked out now, a spokesperson said.

Mission Cantina was repped by Shane Davis of SKH Realty.

Davis has also played a key role in bringing Asian hotspots to the Lower East Side including: Pig & Khao by Top Chef Leah Cohen in the former Falai space at 68 Clinton; SakaMai, formerly The Draft at 157 Ludlow Street; Andy Ricker’s Pok Pok Phat Thai, in the former Bacchus space at 137 Rivington St.; and, Yunnan Kitchen, in the old Raw space at 79 Clinton St.
