Patricia Arquette tapped to join ‘CSI’ cyber spinoff

Patricia Arquette has nabbed the lead role in CBS’ cyber-crime themed “CSI” spinoff pilot.

According to reports, the “Medium” alum will play Avery Ryan, the special agent in charge at the FBI’s cyber crime division in Quantico, Va., which tracks faceless criminals who are enabled by technology to commit crimes with the touch of a button.

The proposed spinoff, which will air as an episode of “CSI” this spring, is from the original franchise’s creative team of Carol Mendelsohn, Anthony E. Zuiker and Ann Donahue and is inspired by cyber-psychologist Mary Aiken.

Arquette earned an Emmy Award for her starring role in “Medium” from 2005 to 2011, which moved from NBC to CBS for its final two seasons. She most recently had an guest arc on HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire,” playing a love interest for Steve Buscemi’s character.

If ordered to series, the cyber-crime spinoff would be the franchise’s fourth, following previous “CSI” shows based in Las Vegas (the original), Miami and New York.
