Pimp gets 62 years for beating, raping harem of hookers under his control

But they liked it!

A violent pimp convicted of controlling his Upper East Side harem of hookers through beatings and forcible sex was sentenced to an impressive 62 years prison today despite his protestations that his victims couldn’t have been too upset — since they kept coming back to work for him.

“I’m going to assert my innocence ’til the day I die,” Donnell Baines told Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Patricia Nunez.

“The court may not like me. I don’t like me. But I didn’t do those things,” he said of his October conviction on rape, promoting prostitution, sex abuse and unlawful imprisonment.

“it defies basic human experience for somebody to [be raped] and not say anything and to keep leaving and coming back,” he griped to the judge.

Baines kept at least four women, including a 16-year-old, in his East 77th St. apartment, but claimed he was merely running a Web cam porn service.

“The witnesses who testified certainly were mystifying to me in some of their reactions to the acts that were perpetrated upon them,” the judge said of the victims’ decisions to stay with Baines.

“You picked these damaged women. You gave them food, housing. They performed prostitutional activities for you… and you never gave them a penny. To me this is akin to slavery,” she said.

Baines would beat his victims over the slightest infractions, Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance said after the whopping sentence.

“I hope that the defendant’s significant prison term gives his victims some comfort,” Vance said in a written press statement that urged other victims to call his Human Trafficking Hotline at 212-335-3400 regardless of immigration status.

Defense lawyer Anastasios Sarikas said he will appeal the sentence. “I believe it will be overturned on appeal,” he said.
