Unnatural juice

PepsiCo swill stop calling its popular Naked juices “all natural” and also cough up $9 million to settle a suit charging that the drinks contain synthetic ingredients.

Naked said it uses an “added boost of vitamins” in its juices — but the lawsuit says the juices contain synthetic vitamins and fiber.

The lawsuit highlights the confusion around the word “natural” in the food industry — with multiple current legal cases over food companies’ use of the label.

“[Pepsi] is basically surrendering the use of the offensive, deceptive marketing term,” said public-health lawyer Michele Simon.

Last night the Web site for Naked Juices still showed bottles bearing the words “all natural.”
