Woman breaks leg falling into East River near Gracie Mansion trying to retrieve dropped cell phone

This woman’s going to need a new phone… and a cast!

A woman was hurt when she took an early morning tumble into the East River near Gracie Mansion yesterday while foolishly trying to retrieve her cell phone, law enforcement sources said.

She was strolling along the river in Carl Schurz Park on the Upper East Side at around 6 a.m. when she dropped her phone onto the rocks below, sources said.

Rather than cutting her losses, the woman instead tried to climb down the 20-foot seawall to grab the device and ended up falling most of the way, landing on the jagged boulders along the shoreline, sources said, and breaking at least one of her legs.

A passerby who spotted her take the plunge alerted a police officer on-duty at Gracie Mansion, who threw the woman life preserver.

The woman was able to pull herself onto shore, where she was later rescued by the FDNY’s Marine Unit Six. She was rushed Weill Cornell Medical Center for treatment, sources said.
