H&M finally fulfills their promise – opens online store

Ladies and gentlemen, warm up those credit cards because H&M has finally opened an online store in the US.

The Swedish company’s lack of an online presence has long baffled consumers as the megastore has expanded to have 269 locations in the US.

Adding to the confusion, was the company’s repeated promises of the online store’s imminent arrival — the company originally tweeted that they were going to open their online store at the beginning of 2012.

Then last month, the company’s official twitter account said, “Online shopping will be available @hmusa in August, stay tuned for further details!” and sure enough the store’s online door opened this morning.

The news comes as a relief for many plus-sized shoppers who have often had a hard time finding the right size at H&M’s brick-and-mortar stores because many of them only carry up to size 14.

The online store will offer up to size 24, a relief to the 50% of women in the United States who wear at least some plus-sized clothing, according to a ModCloth survey.

Besides women’s clothes, H&M’s e-commerce site will also sell men’s, teen and children’s apparel as well as H&M Home products, which are making their debut online.
