Park is the place

The new Park on Fremont gastropub in downtown Las Vegas, which opened about two weeks ago, has already turned into a popular destination for an eclectic crowd of local scenesters. With owners including alt-media moguls Ryan Doherty and Justin Weniger, as well as Electric Daisy Carnival emperor Pasquale Rotella, Park on Fremont is attracting a cool clientele consisting of both the fresh-faced downtown-redevelopment set (many of whom came to Vegas for opportunities with Zappos boss Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project) and Strip hospitality veterans eager for a change of pace. Featuring a reclaimed herringbone floor, a 1940s-era jukebox, a landscaped patio built for conversation and a comfort-food menu including a Philly mac-and-cheesesteak sandwich, the beer garden (with more than 100 selections) and restaurant joins its sister speakeasy Commonwealth (with its purposefully hidden Laundry Room bar) on Fremont Street. Park on Fremont is next door to another newcomer, Radio City Pizza, which opened in late February. And the dining and nightlife scene in the area should only get hotter when Michael and Jenna Morton unveil their La Comida restaurant, just off Fremont behind Commonwealth, later this month. Expect summer to sizzle downtown.
