CARLOS FEELING A LEG UP

MET NOTES

Carlos Beltran’s strained left quad is improving even more.

The Mets’ star center fielder said yesterday his leg “feels a lot better.” He estimated its strength at “about 90 [percent], I guess.”

Last Friday, Beltran had said it was at approximately 80 percent.

Beltran missed six games due to the quad in late September.

Even if Tom Glavine starts this afternoon and not Game 2, it doesn’t appear as if he’ll face former Atlanta teammate Greg Maddux, who is starting Game 3.

“I really didn’t care,” Glavine said. “I knew there was a possibility and I thought if it happens, hey, that’d be fun. It would be something fun for everybody to talk about and certainly would have a lot of pre-game hype leading up to it.

“But there’s always too much made of those matchups, regardless of what they are. But it would have been fun, and I guess now it’s probably not going to happen. Who knows? But maybe it’ll change. Who knows? But I’ll still try and go out there and do my part, and I’ll still be interested watching him trying to do his.”

Shawn Green has an impressive history against Derek Lowe, having gone 10-for-24 (.417) with three homers.

“I don’t know what it is, but I hope it continues,” Green said.
