ALBANY – With just three days until the election, two new polls released yesterday show Alan Hevesi barely clinging to his once-massive lead over little-known comptroller challenger Christopher Callaghan (right).
Siena Research Institute has Hevesi’s lead over Callaghan down to 39-35 percent, compared to 52-25 percent last month.
A whopping 26 percent are still undecided, according to yesterday’s poll, while just 27 percent of those surveyed hold a favorable view of Hevesi.
“The ‘Driving Mrs. Hevesi’ scandal has turned Alan Hevesi from a shoo-in for re-election into a candidate fighting for his political life, holding a slim and ever-shrinking lead,” said the poll’s Steven Greenberg.
The news was better for the Democrat in a WNBC/Marist College poll that has him ahead 48-36 percent.
