LEON IN ‘MIDDLE’ OF FLAP

An oddball flap has taken place in recent days regarding a collectors’ football card of Jet rookie running back Leon Washington, whose card came out looking as if he were displaying a derisive middle-finger sign with both hands, which were crossed across his chest.

When alerted of the card, a Topps spokesperson sent out a release apologizing that the card got through its editing process and saying the company expressed “embarrassment” over the incident.

When informed of the situation yesterday, Washington said he would never do that, explaining that the sign he was displaying was two fingers on each hand to signify “East Side,” the section in Jacksonville where he was raised.
