FAKE COP FONDLES L.I. WOMAN

A man impersonating a police officer fondled a woman during a bogus frisking early yesterday, the second case of a bogus cop in three days on Long Island.

Nassau County police said that the 26-year-old woman was sleeping in her van in a Lynbrook parking lot at 12:30 a.m. when a car pulled up behind her.

A man began shining a flashlight in the unidentified victim’s van and she voluntarily opened her door. The man, described as a white or Hispanic male, ordered her out of the vehicle and onto the street.

Assuming the man was a police officer, the woman complied. He had a blue uniform and a badge hanging from a chain around his neck and told the woman to assume a frisking position against her car.

Sgt. Robert Galliano said the man then fondled the woman before driving off in a dark-colored sedan. The victim immediately notified Lynbrook police. No arrests have been made.

Police did not say if there was a connection between Sunday’s incident and another brazen case of cop impersonation in Suffolk County Friday morning.

A woman was driving to a bank in North Lindenhurst when a dark sedan with flashing lights pulled up close behind her.

An occupant of the car yelled from a microphone and speaker system for the woman to pull over.

Wearing a blue uniform and a name plate, the man eventually grabbed the woman’s wallet and fled. No arrests have been made.

Galliano said that motorists should be vigilant if they suspect that a cop impersonator is attempting to pull them over. He suggested checking badges and pulling into well lit areas during stops.
