HERE COMES CITY E-CYCLING

New York City is on the verge of becoming the first municipality to enact an e-waste bill, officials said yesterday.

City Councilman Bill DeBlasio (D-Brooklyn) announced that he has collected 38 co-sponsors on a bill that would require manufacturers to collect and recycle TVs, computers and other electronic devices they sell.

DeBlasio indicated he is close to a deal with the mayor.

One major sticking point is a provision supported by the council that would ban manufacturers from selling their products in the city if they didn’t sign on to the recycling program.
