GAS BLAST SHELLSHOCKS OYSTER BAR

An explosion rocked the Oyster Bar at Grand Central yesterday morning, sending one employee to the hospital with burns.

The oven in the lower-level restaurant blew up as assistant baker Miguel Castillo was setting up at about 6 a.m., according to general manager Michael Garvey.

A gas leak was believed to be the cause, although officials could not find any leak afterward.

Castillo was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center with minor burns and bruises.

Only a small part of the kitchen was affected and the restaurant is expected to be reopened by today.

“After assessing the damage, we will make the necessary adjustments and be fully operational [today],” said Garvey. “The Oyster Bar family is thankful that there wasn’t significant damage.”

Regulars at the 93-year- old eatery – which was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1997 – weren’t happy as clams.

“I’m disappointed definitely, don’t know where I’m going to go now,” said Frank Keen, a sales rep who eats lunch there about twice a week, “I’ll have to find a place.”
