ROBERT CHAMBERS PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO DRUG CHARGES

Wearing the same rumpled, filthy clothes that he was arrested in, Preppy killer Robert Chambers pleaded not guilty to drug charges in Manhattan State Supreme court today.

Justice Charles Solomon won’t decide until Monday whether to grant bail to Chambers or his longtime girlfriend Shawn Kovell.

Both appeared separately at this morning’s arraignment

They are accused of selling cocaine from Kovell’s Upper East Side apartment.

Chambers’s attorney, Valerie Van Leer Greenberg, declined to comment after the court appearance.

Kovell’s attorney, Frank Rothman, said this was his client’s first contact with the criminal justice system.

He said under normal circumstances she would be sent to a drug rehab program and said that if she was treated any differently it was because of her association with Chambers.

The drug-addicted Kovell is charged with a single count of selling $500 worth of drugs.

“Her only support group was Chambers, if you can call it that and now they’re separated,” Rothman said. When asked how she was doing, he said, “not good”.

Chambers was busted for selling about $10,000 worth of cocaine to undercover cops seven times. He was seen on surveillance cameras holding a bag of drugs.

In 1988, Chambers pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing Jennifer Levin during “rough sex” in Central Park and was sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.

He ended up serving the maximum term because of discipline problems behind bars, including dealing drugs.
