NBA: Nets game canceled

In Worchester, Mass, the NBA preseason game between the Nets and the Celtics was canceled after one half last night because of court conditions at the DCU Center.

Boston led 36-33 at halftime when the game was called because of dampness on the floor after ice beneath the court began melting. The arena is used for minor-league hockey.

* In Dallas, Mavericks forward Josh Howard was suspended for the first two games of the regular season, punishment for a fight with Sacramento center Brad Miller earlier in the week.

MLB: Surgery for El Duque

Mets veteran right-hander Orlando Hernandez had surgery to remove a bunion in one of his right toes. Hernandez is expected to be OK for spring training. – Mark Hale

NFL: Pacman faces lawsuit

In Las Vegas, a strip-club manager paralyzed in a triple shooting is suing the NFL, the Titans and suspended football player Adam “Pacman” Jones, claiming they’re responsible for his injuries.

Former professional wrestler Tommy Urbanski seeks unspecified damages in the lawsuit filed yesterday in Clark County (Nev.) District Court. It also names the owners of Harlem Knights, a Houston strip club that rented the Minxx Gentleman’s Club in Las Vegas in February for a party the weekend of the NBA All-Star Game.

Jones faces two felony charges alleging he incited a melee and threatened to kill people inside the club minutes before the shooting outside. No one has been charged in the shooting.

* Suspended DT Tank Johnson, who practiced with the Cowboys for the first time, said he was disappointed commissioner Roger Goodell didn’t shorten his eight-game ban.

NASCAR: Gordon captures pole

In Martinsville, Va., Jeff Gordon won the pole for the Subway 500 at 94.974 mph on the 0.526-mile circuit on a rainy. The pole is the 63rd of Gordon’s career.

NHL: Lemieux gets $21M

Penguins co-owner Mario Lemieux will get $21 million as part of the team’s settlement of its 1990s bankruptcy, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Lemieux was owed $32 million in deferred compensation when he retired as a player in 1997. He won’t get additional money on the contract and is believed to be the only unsecured creditor to get less than 100 percent of money owed.

GOLF: Moore surges to lead

In Scottsdale, Ariz., Ryan Moore matched his career low round with a 7-under 63 to take a three-stroke lead halfway through the Fry’s Electronics Open at Grayhawk Golf Club. Moore was at 11-under 129. Phil Mickelson, shot 70 for a 1-over 141 and missed the cut.

* In San Antonio, champions Tour rookie Mark O’Meara made a successful return to the site of one of his PGA Tour victories, shooting an 8-under 63 to take the first-round lead in the AT&T Championship.

* In Gyeongju, South Korea, despite wind gusts up to 20 mph, Suzann Pettersen shot a 3-under 69 and a share of the first-round lead in the LPGA Tour’s Hana Bank KOLON Championship on the soggy Mauna Ocean course. South Korea’s Meena Lee also shot a 69.
