ROAD SLAY SPARKS CALL FOR NEW LAW

New York needs a law requiring a cop to file a report whenever he fires his gun, a police-reform group said yesterday.

“A police officer has an ethical and moral obligation to assume full responsibility for the discharge of his or her firearm,” said Noel Leader, co-founder of 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care.

Prosecutors are weighing whether to charge narcotics cop Sean Sawyer, 34, who admits he fatally shot an unarmed motorist in an apparent case of road rage Sunday.

Sawyer, claiming self-defense, turned himself in on Monday, 19 hours after killing Jayson Tirado, 25, at First Avenue and East 120th Street. He was freed but suspended without pay.

Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau has vowed to present the case to a grand jury.

Said Lisa Claudio, Tirado’s fiancée, “If it was Jason who shot at him, Jason would have been in jail for life.”
