‘VMAs’ rock: ratings up 66 percent from last year’s telecast

Brooklyn proved it can put on a show.

More than 10 million people tuned in for the borough’s first-ever MTV “Video Music Awards” at the Barclays Center. That’s up a whopping 66 percent from last year’s Los Angeles telecast.

The buzz before the live show was about an unconfirmed reunion of boy band *NYSNC. Rumors swirled online about the band coming together again for Justin Timberlake’s Video Vanguard Award performance.

When Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone joined Timberlake for a quick, blink-and-you-miss-it medley, all of Barclays Center got to their feet.

Even though they got less than two minutes of screen time, *NSYNC’s 2000 album “No Strings Attached” Amazon sales skyrocketed more than 3,000 percent yesterday, according to the site’s Movers and Shakers chart.

But the real talker of the night was a sexually charged performance by Miley Cyrus.

The former Disney star took the stage to perform her hit “We Can’t Stop” in a tiny furry costume along with a line of pink, life-sized teddy bears, eventually stripping down to nude bra and panties and grinding and rubbing on “Blurred Lines” singer Robin Thicke.

According to Twitter, Cyrus set a new record clocking in 306,000 tweets per minute, which beat out the previous winner, Beyoncé’s Super Bowl performance.
