Yeshiva confirms abuse

Honchos at Yeshiva University turned a blind eye to “multiple incidents” of on-campus sexual and physical abuse of students prior to 2001, a new report commissioned by the school says.

But the 21-page report — which sources said YU paid a law firm more than $2.5 million to produce — is flimsy on facts because it was published in summary form without any evidence.

“This was supposed to be an independent investigation, but there’s nothing new in here that we already don’t know,” said Kevin Mulhearn, a lawyer for a group of former YU students who say they were victims of abuse dating back to the 1970s and ’80s.

He added that the report can “only help” his clients’ $380 million suit, which was filed two months ago in Manhattan federal court.

The months-long investigation by Sullivan & Cromwell claims the university has taken steps to remedy the problem since 2001 — and notes that abuse wasn’t limited to the high school.

YU President Richard M. Joel said in a statement, “I express my deepest and most heartfelt remorse.”
