PANSEXUAL Internet pin-up Tila Tequila went straight last night – handing her heart to a guy on the MTV bisexual dating show “A Shot at Love.”
New York native Bobby Banhart was the last one standing – pushing aside fan favorite Dani Campbell, a lesbian firefighter from Florida.
Banhart and Campbell beat out 30 other contestants vying for the affections of glamour girl Tila Tequila (whose real name is Tila Nguyen), 26.
Banhart, 25, from Worcester, NY, is still dating Nguyen, according to reports. Campbell hasn’t spoken to Nguyen since filming on the show ended several months ago.
She will face at least 20 of the people she rejected during a special reunion show slated to film on Friday and air on Sunday.
In a tense final scene held on a see-through platform situated in the middle of a pool, Tila asked Banhart if he would “take a shot at love – are you interested?”
Banhart looked shocked, while Campbell stood next to him, heartbroken. As Nguyen and Banhart kissed, Campbell quietly began a long walk back to the house where the show had been filmed. Just as she reached the house, Nguyen ran after her. They embraced and both cried.
Over the course of the episode, Campbell and Banhart uncharacteristically clashed, facing off a few times as the tension over which one Tila was going to pick began to mount.
Earlier, the producers had flown in both contestants’ families for a final dinner together, and Campbell even composed a rap song for Tila in Nguyen’s recording studio.
Very little is known about Banhart, aside from the fact that he is a film student and relies heavily on his parents for financial support.
While Campbell didn’t win, she has turned out to be the breakout star of the show – a mark of her popularity is her MySpace page, which has grown from 200 “friends” to nearly 50,000 since “Shot” debuted in November.
While MTV won’t confirm a second season of the show, casting notices have already been circulating online for a second season of “A Shot at Love.”
Nguyen has said the network did approach her about appearing in another season.
