JIM LEYRITZ ARRESTED FOR DUI AND VEHICULAR HOMICDE

WPLG-TV in Miami reports that former Yankee Jim Leyritz was arrested today after being arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular homicide.

The station reports that police said Leyritz was behind the wheel of a Ford SUV that collided with another vehicle at an intersection in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The female driver of the other vehicle was ejected, and she died after being taken to Broward General Medical Center, police told the station.

Leyritz was arrested on suspicion of DUI because he refused a Breathalyzer test, police said in the report.

Leyritz, who turned 44 yesterday, began his career in 1990 with the Yankees, played 11 seasons in the majors with six different teams, and retired in 2000.

According to police records, Leyrtiz, who now lives in Davie, Fla., was booked at 4:30 a.m. today. He is in the Broward County Jail.
