SUPED-UP DEALS LURK ON SLOPES

SKI areas from New York to Maine will be taking advantage of the big Northeast rivalry in next week’s Super Bowl.

Most of the ski areas in Berkshires and Green Mountains should see a mixed crowd of Giants and Patriots fans. So far we hear that Okemo Mountain is taking $10 off the price of Super Sunday’s lift ticket rate, and I’m betting that other areas will be offering other types of incentives.

On Sunday, Windham Mountain in the Catskills will host the Super Snow Bowl on the NASTAR course to prognosticate the outcome of the real Super Bowl. From 1-2 p.m., anyone dressed in either Giants or Patriots garb will get a free run through NASTAR.

You will have to carry a football down the course with you. The average time of both teams will be calculated using the NASTAR handicap system. Everyone who races for the winning team will receive a non-holiday, midweek lift ticket.

Belleayre has lots going on for their upcoming Winter Festival Week. The festivities start with the Race for Cancer Cure on Saturday. Also on Saturday, the 22nd Annual Snowball honors Gov. Spitzer with the Spirit of the Catskills Award. Belleayre is offering $10 midweek lift tickets from Monday through Friday for Winter Festival Week.

Ski Butternut in the Berkshires will sponsor its sixth annual Skis, Boards and Badges charity fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) on Feb. 1.

Skis, Boards and Badges is open to all active law enforcement personnel and their immediate families. Hailing from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey, participants receive a discounted lift ticket for a fun day of skiing or riding, followed by a raffle and buffet reception in Ski Butternuts Upper Lodge.

For more information on the Skis, Boards & Badges MS Fundraising event visit their Web site at http://www.SkisBoardsandBadges.com.

For the 35th consecutive year, Hunter Mountain is hosting one of the most popular ski races to be found anywhere, as members of the New York Fire Department make their annual trip to Hunter Mountain.

On Feb. 12, teams of five firefighters dressed in full turn-out gear attempt to navigate through a race course while carrying a 50 foot fire hose. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the N.Y. Firefighters Burn Center Foundation. This race is open to any New York City Firefighter. The winners of that race have the chance to race in the East Coast Firefighter’s Race on Feb 13 for the East Coast Championship a race that is open to any paid or volunteer fire company outside of NYC.
