MARIE’S DAYTIME RETURN

MARIE Osmond is going back to the future to host a daytime talk show premiering in fall 2009.

It’s not unfamiliar ground to Osmond who, with her brother Donny Osmond, hosted daytime’s “Donny & Marie” from 1998-2000 (decades after their famous prime-time show).

“This show can be anything we want it to be, depending on the topic and the guest,” Osmond told The Post yesterday.

“I have no problem talking about any topic,” she said. “That’s where I’m a little bit unique.”

Osmond, 48, saw her career get a jump-start with her appearance on last season’s “Dancing with the Stars” which, in turn, led to appearances “Oprah” and “Larry King Live.”

“Dancing” kept Osmond in the headlines for months. During her time on the show, her father passed away, one of her sons entered rehab and, to top it all off, she fainted on-air after a strenuous “Dancing” routine.

Osmond was short on details about her new show yesterday, but said it will target a female audience. “I’m in a place in my life . . . I’ve kind of been through a lot and I see a lot of women going through a lot,” she said. “It’s nice to have a destination to cry.

“I’m one of those weird celebrities who don’t have a million nannies. I kind of do it myself,” she said.

Osmond, who grew up in Salt Lake City, said she’s been following the race for president – including the campaign of fellow Mormon Mitt Romney.

“Mitt’s a good guy. He’s a good man and a family guy and did some great things in the state where he was governor,” she said.

“I watch him and hear all the stuff about how . . . you can’t talk about Mormons,” she said. “The same thing happened when Kennedy ran because he was Catholic.

“I hope the world isn’t so naive that they don’t think we’re not Christian,” she said, alluding to remarks made during the campaign by Romney’s GOP rival, Mike Huckabee.

“I’m a Mormon. Do your homework. It’s called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”
