DIDDY DIDDLES ‘BAND’ BRAND

‘MAKING the Band” has never been harder.

The latest season of MTV’s “Making the Band 2” is a cross between “The Real World” and “Survivor,” says hip-hop impresario Sean “Diddy” Combs, the driving force behind the popular reality show.

“What’s gonna make for some good TV is watching [the people on the show] under pressure to get their albums done in five weeks and have guys and gals who have never lived together stay in a house together,” Combs told The Post.

“Everybody is competing for the focus of the label – and myself,” he says. “It’s that behind-the-scenes pressure, when you’re on a record label and trying to all come out [with new albums] at the same time, that people usually don’t get to see.”

The show’s fourth season kicks off tonight at 10 p.m.

There are two versions of “Making the Band.” A boy-band edition about the forming of O-Town was on ABC in 1999. The second version, on MTV, has spawned two musical acts, Da Band and Danity Kane (“Making the Band 2”).

This season, Combs combined Danity Kane with last season’s winners, who have yet to be given a name, and contestant Donnie, to whom Diddy awarded a solo deal. Danity Kane is recording a sophomore album, while the others are working on first releases.

“It’s that competitive nature they all have,” Combs says. “Add in the pressure of them all living together in the same house and, from day one, it worked out to be more than great TV.”
