CONE OF SILENCE

The last days of the original Carvel ice cream store are melting away.

The first-ever Carvel, in the Westchester town of Hartsdale, has about a week left before it shuts its doors for good.

“It’s so sad. It’s like a landmark,” said Karen Cohen, 64, a psychotherapist from Scarsdale, who has been a customer for 20 years.

Abdol Faghihi, who bought the outlet in 1987, says it will make way for a Japanese restaurant.

“It got to the point that I really couldn’t go on with it,” said Faghihi, 56. “I will definitely miss this place.”

Tom Carvel opened the original store in 1936, when his ice-cream truck broke down in the middle of Hartsdale. The Greek-American tycoon sold the business in 1989 and died in 1990 at age 84.

Faghihi hopes to sell the vintage Carvel sign to a company that uses such pieces for period movies.
