If you watched “Sharknado” and found the plot to be disappointingly coherent, then boy, have we got the film for you.
This is the trailer for “Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark,” a movie which pits a giant fleshy shark against a giant metal shark for 90 spellbinding minutes.
That might sound absolutely ridiculous, but this film is very real. In fact, it’s the third entry in a series of movies which has already delivered such stellar titles as “Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus” and “Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus.”
The first entry in the trilogy earned a universally positive (ahem) reception, with a rating of 15/100 from metacritic site Rotten Tomatoes, and obviously things have taken off from there.
“Mega Shark vs Mecha Shark,” which is set to be released in January, stars washed up actors Christopher Judge (Stargate SG-1) and Elisabeth Rohm (Law & Order, Angel).
“A new mega shark emerges to terrorize the seas, but the U.S. government comes prepared with a giant mechanical shark to combat the threat,” the film’s brief synopsis says.
The trailer isn’t exactly subtle, but what do you expect from a shark-themed film following on from “Sharknado?” They have to get our attention somehow.
The trailer opens with some quick shots of wanton destruction and the words “MEGA SHARK IS BACK.”
From there, we see about 50 gazillion different action sequences, including one scene that shows the mega shark breaking an aircraft carrier in half and another showing the two beasts colliding with each other in midair, right in front of a jumbo jet.
Christopher Judge’s character sums it all up pretty nicely.
“We got us a big-a** fish to catch,” he says.
Meanwhile, you’ve got yourself one awesome-looking D-grade movie to watch.
It’s the shark film for shark film watchers who thought “Sharknado” wasn’t sharky enough.
