GET UP AND GO!

YOU think just because someone’s rich and famous they always were? Or, just because someone’s flush with cash they don’t like to save big sometimes? Check out the advice these boldfacers have to give on the subject of budget travel.

Donna Karan

Get in a car and go — anywhere, just drive upstate, drive out to the beach. It’s wonderful just to get out of town for a little bit.

Gwyneth Paltrow

When I was waitressing, I would save up money and then go on little trips. A lot of train rides — Spain and Italy. I think the train is the best way to see Europe.

Serena Williams

I use Orbitz and Kayak a lot. They’re really great. I’m always traveling on a budget.

Star Jones

Actually, I was on hotels.com today. I love hotels.com, only because I think real people do the reviews, and I’m always interested in that. A lot of people use the travel magazines and the travel guides, but when you’re looking for a good hotel, you can put in four-star or five-star, and you can often find really, great deals. One of my favorite Web sites is itasoftware.com. You’re able to comparison-shop all the fares.

Kevin Bacon

The Jersey Shore. Go down to Long Beach Island. Sleep in a car and listen to Springsteen!

Jill Hennessy

My best vacation was pretty darn cheap. We flew into Vegas, rented a car, drove through Utah, went to Zion National Park. We brought our own tent and we camped out, and went through Canyonlands, to Moab, did some mountain-biking. It was cheap, but you gotta be ready to take a bath in a river every morning. It was not fancy, but it was one of our best memories.

Alec Baldwin

When I was at NYU, I used to smoke a joint and drink a bottle of wine on the Staten Island Ferry. We’d take the Staten Island Ferry to St. George and come back, and we’d be stoned, and then we’d go to Chinatown and have egg rolls.

Rosie O’Donnell

I am always for Miami. It’s warm. It’s beautiful. It’s sunny. I don’t know why anyone would go anywhere else. They have beaches. It’s not that expensive. I don’t advocate the big theme parks. I think it’s way too much money for a family and too much stress.

Hoda Kotb

I did a three-day deal in Puerto Rico that I loved. You’re there in three hours; you’re on the beach in five. But it was a nice way to do [The Caribbean] on the cheap.
