VIVERE

IT’S Christmastime and Antoinetta, a teenager in Ger many, runs off to Rotterdam with her rocker boyfriend after discovering she’s pregnant. Her Italian father dispatches his elder daughter, Francesca, to the Dutch city to bring back her impulsive sister.

Along the way, Francesca helps an older woman, Gerlinde, who has been involved in a minor traffic accident after learning that her lesbian lover has no intention of leaving her husband.

Most of the film unfolds in Rotterdam, with director-writer Angelina Maccarone relating the night’s events three times, from each woman’s perspective.

You can’t quarrel with the lensing and acting, but the overabundance of coincidences keeps “Vivere” from reaching its full potential.

Let it be noted that the actress who portrays pregnant Antoinetta, Kim Schnitzer, looks a lot like Ellen Page, the knocked-up teen in “Juno.”

In German, Dutch, Italian and English, with subtitles. Running time: 97 minutes. Rated R (sexuality, brief nudity). At Cinema Village, 12th Street, east of Fifth Avenue.
