IMETTE SUSPECT’S LAWYER CHALLENGES AUTOPSY

The lawyer for the bar bouncer accused in the grisly rape and murder of John Jay College student Imette St. Guillen yesterday disputed some of the more disturbing autopsy findings, saying they didn’t square with photos taken at the post-mortem exam.

Joyce David, lawyer for alleged killer Darryl Littlejohn, said pictures showed no signs of cuts to the victim’s “private parts,” though official findings of the medical examiner indicate otherwise.

David said she would speak with the medical examiner before trial, slated for the spring, to see “if she will amend her report to reflect that there were no lacerations.”

“I don’t want the jury to have to look at [the photos] and decide for themselves,” she said. “I’m a mother, too.”

In court, prosecutor Ken Taub said the issue was one for trial, adding: “I can’t imagine why Ms. David is bringing this up now.”

David said anything she could do to tamp down the intense popular outrage over the February 2006 rape and murder would improve her client’s chances.

“It’s important because of the sort of mass hysteria that surrounds the case,” she said.
