Nixzmary Brown’s mother confessed helping beat her defenseless daughter to death in a fit of manic jealousy brought on by her husband’s sexual attacks on the girl, according to bombshell testimony made public yesterday.
Nixzaliz Santiago “wanted to hurt her, because she caught her with her husband several times having oral sex,” said a secret witness – an unidentified fellow jailbird – who testified Tuesday in a closed courtroom.
“She told me her child was a bad kid and her and her husband killed her,” the snitch said.
The informant, a Rikers Island inmate awaiting sentence on a $2 million series of scams, said she was assigned to watch Santiago as a suicide-prevention aide.
She said Santiago hated her daughter and would often defend her husband, Cesar Rodriguez.
“She repeats that her husband was a good man and the child was evil, and she referred to her daughter as ‘diablo,’ ” said the inmate, reading from a May 15, 2006, journal entry.
The witness took notes of her conversations with Santiago in a set of composition books, with hopes of writing a true-crime book.
Rodriguez, 29, was initially charged with sexually abusing Nixzmary, 7. But those charges were dropped before trial. A medical examiner testified last month there were no signs of sexual abuse.
The unidentified witness also claimed Santiago told her of recurring dreams of Jan. 10, 2006, the night before Nixzmary’s lifeless body was found.
“She kept having a dream of that night, when they had her in the bathtub and they were banging her head in the tub,” the snitch said.
In Santiago’s videotaped statement to police, she denies taking part in any beating on Jan. 10.
