The Knicks are hopeful Eddy Curry’s season isn’t finished, but will not know until later in the week.
An MRI examination performed yesterday on Curry’s right knee revealed a small vertical cartilage tear that will keep him out of tonight’s game at Dallas. Curry is expected to rest and receive treatment over the next few days and then be re-evaluated, at which time a decision on surgery will be made. If surgery is needed, Curry won’t play again this season.
A team spokesman said because the tear is vertical, it’s possible Curry could resume playing without incurring further structural damage to the knee. But it remains to be seen if the swelling will subside enough to allow Curry back on the court.
Curry sustained the injury during the Knicks’ loss to Detroit on Friday and did not play a day later, in the team’s overtime defeat to Portland.
In 59 games this season Curry is averaging 13.2 points and 4.7 rebounds.
