Law-breaking truckers could soon face the digital scales of justice.
The city’s Transportation Department is set to test a weight-activated traffic camera that adjusts to bust trucks that are too heavy.
Using technology similar to red-light traffic cameras, this spycam is triggered by a truck’s tonnage. When big rigs rumble down the street, a sensor weighs the truck and snaps a shot of the license plate.
“The systems that we are testing are potential tools to help keep overweight trucks off our streets,” said DOT spokesman Seth Solomonow.
