POLISH PM IN JFK SCARE

A Polish airliner carrying Prime Minister Donald Tusk was diverted to a remote area of Kennedy Airport yesterday after an anonymous caller phoned in a bomb threat.

Authorities checked the Lot Polish Airliner after it landed at 5:40 p.m., but nothing was found, a Port Authority spokesman said.

Media outlets in Poland had reported that Tusk was taking the commercial flight because the plane he was going to use had mechanical problems.

“I thought it was really cool that the prime minister was in the plane with us. But in the end, it wasn’t that fun,” said Natalia Gosieniecka 29, one of the passengers detained for several hours.

Victor Stys, 33, another passenger, said, “I didn’t know what to think. They weren’t telling us anything.”

Tusk is meeting today with President Bush to discuss US hopes of placing 10 interceptors in Poland as part of a global missile defense shield designed to protect the United States and Europe from a potential attack by Iran.
