CELEB SPAWN ‘IDOL’

‘ROCK the Cradle,” MTV’s new “Ameri can Idol”-style competition for rock royalty’s offspring, is a go – as The Post first reported.

The show – from the producers of “Idol” – is an eight-episode series set to debut April 3. It features the spawn of famous musicians competing for a record contract that may help them become stars in their own right.

Each week the contestants will rehearse with accomplished producers, songwriters and choreographers before performing live in front of a studio audience and an expert panel of judges.

Ultimately, their fate will be in the hands of the viewers at home, who will vote, just like on “Idol,” who gets the boot and ultimately who the winner will be.

Also like “Idol,” most of the show is expected to be live, while other portions will be pre-taped and documentary-style segments.

The list of contestants ranges from Chloe Rose Lattanzi (daughter of Olivia Newton-John) to Jesse Blaze Snider (who’s daddy is Twisted Sister front-man, Dee Snider)

Others include Crosby Loggins (Kenny Loggins), Jesse Money (Eddie Money), Lucy Walsh (Joe Walsh), Lara Johnston (Doobie Brother Tom Johnston), Akeiba Burrell Hammer (M.C. Hammer), Landon Brown (Bobby Brown) and to prove the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, Lil Al B Sure (the son of Al B Sure).

MTV – which had been working on the show in secret with FremantleMedia North America, the producers of “Idol,” for several months – quietly buried its announcement yesterday with news of other, less buzz-inducing programming.

Among the other shows is a second season of “Idol” judge Randy Jackson’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” and “Celebrity Mentor,” which will pair eight music celebrity mentors with eight amateurs who will compete to become pop stars.
